Last week, there was a summit on the spread of violent extremism on social media hosted by New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and French Prime Minister Macron. The “Christchurch Call” lays out an agenda for change. But it included only tech companies and governments, not civil society. The Call also did not define violent extremism, leaving open the possibility of governments using censorship against human rights activists and other civil society actors.
